What we stand for

The purpose of CHCEE is to ensure that all children, especially those in the Cherry Hill area, have access to high quality, equitable education. We believe that educational excellence and equity must be inclusive and extend across diverse groups. To accomplish these goals, we support educational leaders, elected officials, policies, and programs that seek to improve the educational opportunities and life outcomes with a focus on diversity, equity (defined as fairness and justice, with a recognition that we do not all start in the same place and an acknowledgement of the need to address imbalances), and inclusion.

Current CHCEE Issues

  • We recognize that academic achievement gaps exist in our district across race, SES, and geographic location. We especially support the targeting of additional resources to the west side schools to improve academic outcomes.
  • We believe that many libraries in our schools and classrooms have an insufficient number of developmentally appropriate, LGBTQIA-affirming books. We hope to expand access to LGBTQIA-affirming books in Cherry Hill schools.
  • We recognize that many children in Cherry Hill schools are still suffering emotionally from the effects of the pandemic. We support the use of evidence-based social-emotional learning in our schools, including anti-bullying curricula.
  • We believe strongly in inclusion for special education students and that the district should expand special education programming so that more special education students can be educated in their home schools, with appropriate supports. Moreover, we support enhanced supports and family engagement initiatives for students educated outside of their home school.
  • We strongly support the Cherry Hill African American studies curriculum, diverse hiring efforts, and anti-racist/ culturally responsive pedagogy.
